My name is Jared Eborn, and I’m proud to call Murray home for the past 20 years. My wife and I have raised four children here, each of whom attended and graduated from Murray schools—giving me a deeply personal connection to the community and its future. Now, my grandchildren attend Murray schools.
I’m running for City Council to help shape a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking Murray. My focus will be on expanding affordable housing, driving economic development and revitalization, and ensuring that all Murray students have access to quality education and opportunity.
A little bit of trivia about me:
I hold a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications and Journalism from Utah State University and a master's degree in Sport Management, also from Utah State.
My professional background spans more than 25 years in communications, including 15 years in daily journalism, 10 years in event management and marketing, and the past five years in corporate and business communications.
As a professional journalist, I worked as a writer, reporter and editor for the Salt Lake Tribune, the Deseret News, Idaho State Journal and others. My work was printed in newspapers and publications across the country. When the newspaper industry 'downsized' I found myself following another passion of mine - endurance sports - and founded Extra Mile Racing, LLC and organized more than 150 bike races, marathons and other sports event over a 10-plus year run that ended when the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the pause button on the event business.
This experience has given me a strong foundation in listening, problem-solving, and bringing people together to get things done. Additionally, I worked hand-in-hand with cities, counties and other groups to ensure procedures and laws were followed to ensure safe events.
I pivoted to a more business-centered marketing and communications career and have spent the past few years helping businesses craft quality messaging for their organizations.
The second of seven children raised in the Bear Lake Valley, I grew up appreciating family. My grandparents were farmers and I come from a family of teachers and educators. The education system is important to me and taking care of our students, teachers and schools will always be near the top of my priority list.
Civically, I currently serve as Secretary on the Executive Committee of the Salt Lake County Democratic Party and am the former Executive Director of the Utah Cycling Association. I’ve also been actively involved in local church, civic, and community organizations throughout my time in Murray.
Having donated time, money and resources to Murray High Theatre, Murray High Water Polo, Murray High Performing Arts, Equality Utah, the Salt Lake County Democratic Party and numerous other causes has helped me find purpose and connection with my community and neighbors.
Murray is more than just where I live—it's where I've built a life, a family, and a future. I’m committed to serving our city with integrity, transparency, and a genuine passion for progress. I would appreciate your support and vote in the upcoming election.
